Postal Presents: Folding Dust Pan and Brush

This fold-up dustpan and brush set has a vast target market as budget products often do. Some likely people to buy this product include young people that have recently moved out of home, or into a new home; or anyone that would consider buying such a gift for said people (older relatives in particular). However because this would sell for less than a regular dustpan and brush it is also likely to be bought by anyone that performs the cleaning duties in their home or workplace. Ie. Independent people, therefore typically over 20)

If sent as a present there is a real sense of humor about receiving something so dry and boring; one can imagine sending this to their messy son or daughter when they have moved away from home. Also as the product comes flat it would be possible to print messages on the product to further complement the joke and give the product an endearing and personal dimension.

The Velcro tabbing is simple and effective to allow for ease of manufacture and assembly. Other stylistic elements were explored however they detracted from the functionality of the product

hello hello
i like the design of a dust pan and brush i think it would do really well with people who have very little space, i know that at my house the broom dust pan and pan always get tripped on, stepped on and therefor broken cause they refuse to fit anywhere properly and they cant find a home, this product would be great cause after use you could just unfold it and tuck it away like a piece of paper. also it wouldnt snap like the hard plastic pans which is also good.
i like how its simple to understand the instructions, many of the other designs were really complicated, this means the user will be really satisfyed with themselve which = happy customer.
however i dont know if i would actually like a present of a dust pan and brush, i think i would be alittle pissed and i get that its meant to be a joke but the colour isnt fun its kinda grey and unhappy, i think that at first glimpse i would be alittle dissapointed, maybe if you made it more colorful it would seem more playful and then could be seen as more of a joke?
otherwise i like it nice job :)

I like the design and how you tried to make it comfortable and useful. Its also simple to understand construction so user won't get confused and misunderstand what they are. I think the form of design is also simple so it would be good for vast target market as you intended.
But i don't think the chosen colour suit your target market as it isn't fun and boring. Anyway i like overall your design. :)

Hey Tom,

Your dustpan in my opinion is probably one of the best solutions to the brief that I have seen so far. Fantastic design and great that it serves a large target market. The use of velcro does make the construction easier and overall layout does make it an easy product to assemble. My only suggestion is with dust maybe collecting in the slits near where the velcro sticks together? But apart from that, great result and good job.
